I borrowed this CD from the Seattle Public Library and became obsessed.  I listened to it repeatedly until it was due, rechecked it and listened until I had no choice but to return it.  I then went in search of it on vinyl.  I searched for a year and a half, and finally found it for $75 through a mail order record shop.  Just as I had convinced myself it was worth it, I found it for $15.  I love this album.  It's soulful, jazzy, touching and sweet with just the right amount of schmaltz.  It's Betty Carter's recording debut, and her voice with Ray's is amazing.

I feel like I have hit on what I want this podcast to be, even s it continues to evolve: the radio station that I'd listen to. Typically I find myself bored by both radio stations and dance floors because they are constrained by genre but my sense of music that is worth exploring and experiencing is not. One of my favorite dance floors was Black Betty in Williamsburg BKLYN 2002-2006. There was a DJ, whose name I should know, who played great dance sets as if genre was somewhat irrelevant. As someone touched by music across genres, he was the first best example for me of what it meant to put together the expanse of music you loved with no regard to genre. He played great sets that sometimes left me temporarily ambivalent but, overall, incredibly impressed. I wish to emulate that with less respect to BPM. For the third episode of The Supper Table I'm serving up a bit of PJ Harvey along with some other reminiscent flavors. Whatever. The food metaphor is goofy. I know it, you know it. Let's just all be thankful that it's just about the music.
